    • Professor Sanjay Singh (Acting Director)

      Prof Sanjay Singh is the Acting Director of Giri Institute of Development Studies. He has an M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Lucknow. His areas of specialization are Indian Sociology, Sociology of Politics, Sociology of Law, Rural Studies, and Democratic Decentralization. He has organized many Seminars and workshops. His published works include four books and more than thirty reviews and articles. His books are Women Gram Pradhans and Village Governance: A Journey from 1995-2010 (2013), Reading Lohia: Perspective of the Youth ( ed.,2013), Debating Lohia: A Reader ( ed. 2016) and SamajikStarikaran ( ed.,2020) He has completed four important Projects on the issues of ‘Democratic Decentralization and Gender’, ‘Legal Impact Assessment’ and ‘ Environment and Social Impact Assessment’ funded by ICSSR, New Delhi, and Government of Uttar Pradesh. Presently working on two projects relating to the issue of forest and forest dwellers in Uttar Pradesh. He also extended consultancies to different organizations. He is a member executive in the Ethnographic and Folk Culture Society, Lucknow, India. He has been nominated as a member of the State Resource Group by the Department of Panchayati Raj, Government of U.P. He was the Convener of the Research Committee (RC-07) on Adivasi and Tribal Studies of the Indian Sociological Society. He is Visiting Faculty at various Institutes and Universities. He is a member of the Governing Council, Academic Council, and Board of Studies of various universities and Institutes.
