Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow, Library Rules & General Rules
1. Noise, disturbance or unruly behavior is forbidden in any part of the library.
2. Smoking, food and drinks are not allowed in the library.
3. Silence shall be observed in the public areas of the library. Mobile phones, pagers and watch alarms should be switched off before entering the library.
4. Library materials must not be taken out of the library unless a Library staff has properly issued them.
5. All books and personal belongings must be shown to the library staff at the library exits whenever required to do so.
6. No bag, case, umbrella, personal book, CD-ROM, or floppy disk should be brought into the Library. They should be deposited at the property counter at one’s own risk.
7. Library membership cards are not transferable and must be produced whenever requested
by Library staff.
8. Library membership cards, when lost, must be reported immediately in person or by
telephone to the Circulation Section. Member concerned will be responsible for any book
taken on the library card.
9. Mutilation and theft of library materials are offences punishable by law. Appropriate
action will be taken by the Library against offenders.
10. Library books and documents must be treated with honour, so that it is prohibited to
underline, write notes or pull out pages there from.
11. The library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings of users.
12. The members should inform the library their new designations, official addresses and
addresses of communication as and when they move to new assignments or locations.
13. Following consultation, books should be left on the tables for the library staff to re-shelve
them.
14. 9.30 A.M. to 6.00 P.M. Monday to Friday Lending service is available till 6.00 pm.
15. All users must prepare to leave the Library ten minutes before closing time and to be out
of the building by closing time. Items available for loan may be borrowed until ten
minutes before closing time.
16. The library staff has the right to ask users to leave the library if they are inappropriately
dressed or are causing a disturbance.
17. The library staff has the right to ask a non-member to leave the library.
18. No personal belongings except wallet and notebooks shall be allowed in the library. All other
belongings including diary, mobile phone, tablet and laptop etc. Library entrance shall be
kept.
19. Every user entering the library shall sign the Visitors’ Register for the purpose of records for
office use.
20. The students are liable for punishment and fine, if they either misbehave or damage Library
books or any other property. Students are required to handle books and reading material very
carefully. Marking library books with pencil or ink, tearing the pages or spoiling the same in
any other way and stealing of books will be viewed very seriously. In such case, the last user
will be held responsible unless he shows the Library Staff at the time of issue that the book
has been previously marked of damaged. In the event of damage of any kind, the last reader
will be liable to compensate for damage; the book will have to be replaced.
21. Issue and return of books and other reading materials shall take place as per schedule.
22. Each Faculty members shall be provided 10 books at a time for the period of one month.
23. Staff Member shall be provided 2 books at a time for a period of 15days.
24. Each Research Scholar shall be provided 05 books at a time for a period of 15 days.
25. Books will be issued against borrowers’ card (I-card/Smart Card) only.
26. The borrower is fully responsible for the books issued against the cards issued to him/her.
27. Student may reserve a title by submitting his desires, on the prescribed requisition slip / on
line public access catalogue (OPAC).
28. Reference books, unbound periodicals/journals & theses will not be issued generally.
29. The Librarian shall have the power to refuse the issuance of a book to any member or may
recall any book without assigning any reason therefore.
30. If any book issued to a user is lost, the amount of penalty is as under:
a) Replacement of the lost book will be permitted with latest edition of the lost book.
b) Payment of Double cost of the lost of book.
d) In the case of unpriced publication, the replacement cost (Xeroxing, papers etc.) and the
binding charges may be recovered along with Rs. 500/- as penalty. The final decision in
such case will be taken by the library committee with due approval of the Librarian/ In
Charge Librarian.
31. Photocopy of reading materials of the reference section (except thesis and dissertation) would
be made available on prior payment of Rs.01.00 per page, at fix timings 03.00
32. All dues to the library must be paid before closing his membership in the library.
