Dr. Senapati holds an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He received the Jindal Scholarship and ICSSR Fellowship during his research. In 2007, he completed training in Academic Capacity Building and Research Methodology at the University of Birmingham.
Before joining the Giri Institute of Development Studies, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research, Ahmedabad, and the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, New Delhi. He was also a UGC Post-Doctoral Fellow at JNU. He taught at the School of Liberal Studies, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar.
Dr. Senapati has presented more than 52 papers in national and international seminars. He has been invited as a resource person and keynote speaker on over 20 occasions. He has completed 20 research projects at national and international levels. He has collaborated with scholars across South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and the Asia Pacific regions.
He has conducted research in many countries. These include Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. He received a special academic award from the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Indian Economic Association conferred on him the Fellow Award in 2023. He has been serving as Joint Secretary of the Association since 2025.
Dr. Senapati has authored more than 49 publications. These include research papers, books, and book chapters. His notable books include Economic Integration and Peace Prospect in South and Central Asia: Implications for India’s External Security, published by the Indian Council for World Affairs, and Exclusion and Poverty in India and Central Asia: A Diversity and Development Perspective, published by Penguin Random House.
He has organised more than 11 seminars and training programmes to build research capacity among faculty members, Ph.D. scholars, and postdoctoral fellows. These programmes were supported by funding from different agencies.
He has travelled widely and visited leading academic institutions across Europe, South Asia, Central Asia, South Korea, and Georgia. He is a member of several professional bodies. These include the Economic Research Institute, Kazakhstan, the Indian Defence and Strategic Analyses, and international and national political science and sociology associations.
His research interests include ethnicity, human security, human rights, trade and development, public policy, global development issues, and social science methods.
