• Dr. Animesh Roy (Assistant Professor - Geography)

  
  

  Animesh Roy received his Doctoral Degree in Development Geography from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2015. He is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Giri Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), Lucknow. For a brief stint from 22 September 2023 to 02 January 2024, he held the position of Associate Professor at the Institute of Development Kolkata (IDSK)⸺ a Centre of Excellence in Social Sciences under the Government of West Bengal.
  
  His wide interests of research include: political economy of dispossession and development, neoliberal city-making, tribal exclusion, and Khasi matrilineage.
  
  He has extensively published his research⸺ mostly sole-authored⸺ in refereed journals, such as Asian Ethnicity (Taylor & Francis: Forthcoming),International Journal of Community and Social Development (SAGE), Sociological Bulletin (SAGE), Society and Culture in South Asia (SAGE), Journal of Land and Rural Studies (SAGE: 02 papers), Chinese Sociological Dialogue (SAGE), Social Change (SAGE), Journal of Rural Development, Social Change and Development, Economic and Political Weekly and so on. He has also contributed a book review toAmerican Journal of Sociology.
  
  In addition to journal publications, he has authored chapters in four edited volumes: Media, Politics and Environment: Analyzing Experiences from Europe and Asia(Springer, 2023),Encyclopaedia of New Populism and Responses in the 21st Century(Springer, 2023),Agriculture in India: Crises and Prospects (Rawat Publications, 2021) and Land and Livelihoods in Neoliberal India (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020).
  
  Dr. Roy currently serves as a Member-at-Large (2022 -2026) for the Asia-Pacific Branch of the ‘International Consortium for Social Development’ (ICSD), reflecting his engagement with regional and global development discourse.
