Physical Infrastructure
The Institute is located in a quiet, green and spacious four acre area in the northern part of Lucknow city.


The physical infrastructure consists of:

  1. The main office building which houses the library and the computer centre and a large seminar hall;
  2. The guest house and hostel for research scholars; and
  3. Residential quarters for the faculty and staff.
GIDS has a well equipped modern Library which provides valuable services to researchers, teachers and students of social science disciplines. The Institute library has a total collection of over 42000 titles. The collection includes publications in social sciences with a focus on development, basic classical writings and reference books on selected subjects, official publications and reports of central and state government agencies and is on the exchange programme with various research institutions. The library subscribes to 90 Indian journals in different social science disciplines and has the facility of JSTOR consolation for foreign journals archive. The library subscribes to various electronic databases. It is equipped with computers and uses LIBSYS software for providing various readers services and in-house facilities. The library avails the e-library facility under the Depository Library scheme of the World Bank. It also receives publications on gratis of the United Nations and OECD on regular basis. It is equipped with a photocopy machine also.
The Institute's has a dedicated Computer Centre to provide computer facilities with latest data processing and analysis software packages. The conference hall and seminar hall of the Institute is fitted with modern gadgets sound system.
