The library has built specialized and robust collection of rare documents in social sciences catering to the research objectives of the Institute. It is an asset for academicians and policy makers in this part of the country. The books in print form still are the prime need of the users. There is also focused subscription of on-line resources in the library which are highly used by the scholars. The library is part of a few consortiums and networks and is part of the network plan for ICSSR libraries. The scholars are largely benefited by the DELNET and the EPW Archive.
The GIDS Library has a specialized collection of resources keeping view the changing research and academic needs of its scholars. The collection is also built up in terms of an asset for the Institute which is the driving force for creative efforts, innovative changes and knowledge sources, endeavoring to provide rich information that is historical and contemporary in diversified fields of interest. The Library houses a total collection of 48,227 and subscribes to 83 Indian Journals apart from foreign journals subscribed through JSTOR. The core areas are Economic, Sociology, Education, Political Sciences and allied areas. There is special emphasis laid on the collection of the state of Uttar Pradesh for which documentation is also done on regular basis. The Library has a few CD-ROM Databases especially of the World Bank publications. There is link to a few on-line subscriptions providing facility from any networked computer within the Institute. The Library provides a few databases of its own of books and journals, article indexing and abstracting, digitized Institute publications, news paper clippings of a few core subject areas and CO-ROM databases.
